Back to the basics

Even though I put this blog on hold and said my goodbyes, I am back. Definitely the blog form factor is here to stay, regardless of how social networking sites have diverted our attention to other people's lives. I guess I had my Oscar de la Hoya or Tito Trinidad moment, back in November when I thought I was putting this blog on hold indefinitely. I had laid my eyes on Twitter and was convinced it would make my blog obsolete since I've been blogging for what seems like and eternity... almost 4 years. I was certainly mistaken.

Anyways, I was very prompt to join the stream of consciousness going on with twitters and eagerly jumped into the conversation of puertoricans on Twitter, the self-named Twittericans. I loved the concept and the fact is the the ideologist of the genre @Rmediavilla is a very energetic and engaging guy. I definitely bought the concept from him. All of a sudden, I start getting followers, some of them Twittericans and I begin to follow some of them too (the thing about Twitter is to keep your updates public so you can be part of the conversation going on everywhere). This is what I have learned so far.

1-People that follow you, will not necesarily answer back or engage in a conversation with you! WTF? Yeah, I know! Then why the hell bother in the first place? So much for twitter-etiquette!

2- If you are not diehard geeky, you just don't fit in. I am moderately geeky and I am not turned on by science fiction mumbo, jumbo. I own a smartphone, 1 laptop, 1 umpc, an Ipod and like very stupid, romantic, cheesy movies. I use my Wii mainly for Guitar Hero, Rock Band or Wii Fit. I deal with tough situations for a living so I don't need to conquer an alternative universe, fighting my way to power with a special sable. Whenever I have time to play Wii, I only want to Rock On!

3- I think I am too old for my local Twitter scene. I just can't help but know what is happening in the world with politics, economy, civil rights, etc. I know why Wall Street collapsed. When 30,000 government employees in my country go on strike because they are afraid of being fired, I don't give a damn if they are going to create traffic for hours, I am worried sick about how that is going to hinder the growth of our local economy and because of it, crime will skyrocket. BTW, only I seemed exited about Rock Band - The Beatles --I rest my case, ha,ha!

4-I love the fact that important news mediums frequently tweet relevant news of all sorts. It helps me to keep up without missing out.

5- Asides from the sudden fad Twitter has caused, in part beacuse of how celebrities are finding their way to Twitter, I can see it's potential for marketing and building a brand based on a personalized customer experience.

All in all, I still have mixed feelings about Twitter but I am willing to sit and listen till the right conversation comes my way. I will fearlessly jump into the conversation once again. I am no Twitter/Quitter.
